I’m mom and the other half of dads-deals. I’m not really involved in the deal related posts on this website, so I wanted to create my own little space on here where I can share my thoughts, experiences, and epic adventures. As dad said, I am the proud mother to 2 beautiful little snuggle bugs: a 6 year old and a newborn.
I have a full-time job as a geologist and have just started back working at the office, though I am lucky to have a very supportive company where I can work flexible hours and can work from home when possible. But most of the time, I will have to be away from the home, which is hard. I am also breastfeeding my little guy, which can make planning things a bit more complicated.
I like to challenge myself and will often do something on a whim that could become a lifelong passion. In college, one day I decided to pursue a minor in Studio Arts (though I truly had no real art experience). I fought my way through the courses and now art (mostly painting) still remains one of my favorite things to do when I have a moment to myself – of course, with having a full-time job, a 6 year old, and now a newborn (not to mention my big little kid – dad), I don’t find myself with a lot of that!!
My most recent impulse was to sign up for Mom & Baby yoga classes. I have never taken a yoga class before and have done it maybe one time by watching a video – but, that was probably more than 8 years ago and I really don’t know what I am getting myself into. For all I know it could be a room full of über-fit supermoms who have been doing prenatal yoga, eating nothing but kale and tofu, and are level 99 yoga masters (is that even a thing – I really know nothing about it!! Ahh!). My biggest workout since I became pregnant last year, has been lifting that giant eclair from the bakery or trying to fit a spicy chicken sandwich in my mouth! Ok, so maybe it hasn’t been all that bad (though I must admit, I did obliterate more than my fair share of eclairs during my pregnancy. Mmm!). Actually, once it became warm enough outside, we have tried to walk as much as possible. I even did a 1 mile walk for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2 weeks before my due date! Still, though, I worry that I’m going to make myself look silly or that my little one will be cranky and cry the whole time. I’ll let you know how it goes, however, so we will see if all of my fears are unfounded and I uncover a new passion, or if it is even worse than I imagined and I vow never to speak of the “y–” word again.
Another thing that I hope to share with you all are the challenges and rewards of balancing working a full-time job and making time to be with and enjoy my perfect little family. As much as I would love to be a stay at home mom, I also love my job and it makes me happy to be able to be able to support my little gang. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely feel the working mom’s guilt, but I love that I can be a positive role model for my children!
